Lewisham

A south east London area, south of Charing Cross by (9.5 km) 5.9 miles is Lewisham (/ˈluːɪʃəm/), England. Mentions as Levesham a place in Kent which to Lewisham may refer was a Latin legal record, dated 1440. Abraham Colfe, the then Lewisham vicar, built six almshouses for the inhabitants, a primary school, and a grammar school, in the mid-17th century.

Until 1889 part of Kent administratively, and then formed part of the Lewisham Metropolitan Borough until 1965 in the London County, was Lewisham. Lewisham has seen regeneration including several buildings that are high-rise residential's construction around Molesworth Street and Loampit Vale in the 21st century. To form the constituency of Lewisham and Greenwich, with Len Duvall being the Assembly Member that is current, the Lewisham London Borough is joined with the Greenwich Royal Borough, in the London Assembly.

A National Health Service, acute hospital run by the Trust of Lewisham and Greenwich serving the whole Lewisham London Borough as well as some areas that are surrounding, is University Hospital Lewisham, opened in 1894. Include Sedgehill Secondary School, Lewisham Southwark College, and Christ the King Sixth Form College, are Sixth form and further education providers in Lewisham.
